Project Background

This project incorporated a highly innovative composite structural flooring system for the design of two new-build residential tower blocks of 7 and 5 storeys respectively. Built over the top of a existing concrete framed car park (circa 1960) the project also required elements of the existing structure to be strengthened with MBT composite carbon fibre technology.

The shallow structural flooring system enabled the client to construct an entire additional floor and still comply with the planning height restrictions. In addition the small composite columns ensured the net lettable area of the completed structure was maximised.

This highly efficient design, offered other benefits by ensuring construction rates equivalent to a steel framed building while offering the benefits of no fire protection requirements to either beams or columns and minimal site storage/access requirements, ideal for an inner city development.
